The 86-page brochure shows the different ways in which the artists have approached the overarching themes of optics and diagnostics and the experiences and conversations they have shared with the scientists. In her essay, bioart expert Ingeborg Reichle locates the project's concept within the thriving arts & science scene. Bioart pioneer and passionate balloonist Joe Davis also joined the founding efforts and enriched the publication with an essay.
Exhibition
The final exhibition in October 2021 showed the potential of Jena, the so-called "City of Light", as a meeting place for the community of art and science. We had cordially invited to the opening of our big final exhibition on October 1, 2021 at TRAFO and numerous guests accepted the invitation! For the first time all works of our five artists created during the residency were shown to the public. This was preceded by a joint construction process with the curator Paolina Wandruzska. The evening began with welcoming speeches by Franziska Eberl and Ingeborg Reichle, followed by an artist talk moderated by Marie Niederleithinger. Afterwards we celebrated the opening with music and dance into the night.

Since the 1990s, there has been a paradigm shift from silicon-based to carbon-based technologies. The Corona pandemic now acts like a burning glass: it puts biotechnology in ourFocus as a key industry of the 21st century. We were delighted to welcome Joe Davis - a thought leader in this field - to our first Arts & Science Soiree to hear his talk and engage with him in a public discourse on the technologies of the future in Jena! Also speaking on the panel were Prof. Christina Brandt, Prof. Dr. Stefan Lorkowski, and Dr. Hendrik Huthoff on how new knowledge is being created at the intersection of art and art and science. The event was moderated by journalist August Modersohn.
Opening Event
In our Opening Event artists and scientists met for the first time. After a short review about the genesis of the project, we heard impulse lectures about the relationship between science and art from our guests of honor Margarete Jahrmann, Franziska Eberl and Ingeborg Reichle. Then followed a musical program: Sandor Nietzsche played on the analog synthesizer, followed by a sound performance by Katrin Hunze. The two DJs Sarah Boring and Raedea rounded off the
evening.
