Performance: Metacognitive Tool
27.10.22
19:00
Monika Dorniak's multimedia performance Metacognitive Tool (2016/2022) will be presented as part of the event Mental Health in Academia. In the performance, Colombian performer Eva Robayo explores the anthropocentric paradox of humanity and its position within nature, and outside of it. Sound artist Reece Cox's score is inspired by the artist's research into the symptoms of Solastalgia – the alienating feeling towards our accelerated and fragmented environment. Working with a wearable sculpture, the dancer embodies the state of the sea-creature (Pikaia) 500 million years ago, and morphes into the physical form of the homo sapiens around 300.000 years ago, before arriving at the present anthropocentric state of being 'homo sapiens sapiens'. Analysing the era of the Anthropocene critically, the performance aims to address the oppression of the nature-human-connection and their impact on the traumatised human and more-than-human landscapes. This will be followed by a panel discussion on mental health and its destigmatization; including contributions from the artist, as well as her scientific partners in the residency, Olivia Engmann and Ilona Croy.
